Well, I guess its about time I wrote some history of why this all started, what I was thinking when I ran the first LAN and more importantly, why the hell was it called Llamalan of all things?
Well, basic history first. The original Llamalan was arranged as a social event, to allow the members of FTD (Frag Test Dummies) to actually meet in the flesh. This took place back in 2002. After the first event, I got messages from those who had attended, asking when the next event was to take place. I then set about organising the second Llamalan. This event was more of a real LAN than a social get together, and took place in a village hall near to my home oft the time.
Again, the event was a success, and again I was asked when the next event would take place. So once again, the next event went ahead, and this is how Llamalan came about.
What I was thinking - I haven't got a clue
as for the name: For this, we need to go back even further, to an office in Medway, with s group of worked who play in the same clan. The Clan leader wants a new stats program, as the one he uses (gibstats) does not cater for the game that we play.
Enter new member Kanonfodda, and his knowledge of database construction. Along comes a new piece of software "gibbonstats". The name was chosen as a dig at the original gibstats, and a fun play on word. It was decided, early on that gibbonstats was not such a good name for the software, so a change of name was in order. But what to call it?
After someone mentioned an oft-used gaming phrase "target llama", the name was chosen. Llamastats was born. The original software, written in access had the ability to read Q3 logs and parse the data to create very detailed stats. But where to go from here, well, a web site was required. Thus http://www.llamastats.co.uk was born. The site actually has a working web version of the software!! So, when the first LAN was proposed, a name and a website were required. Considering that the website would be hosted on the llamastats website, Llamalan was decided as the name.
Later on http://llamalan.llamastats.co.uk was born, and as time progressed, http://www.llamalan.co.uk became the website for the LANs
and there you have, the history of Llamalan

As an addition to this info, I thought it'd be fun to also provide links to the Internet Wayback Machine prepped with the URL of the oldest versions of the LlamaLAN site. Check it out!

Sadly, it seems CSS files aren't archived very well and the later versions aren't indexed...
