Comic Sans

Post by mr_roll »

I hate it, it looks cheap and nasty tbh. Can you make me a forum skin that just has a nice font in, like Arial or Vedana, even courier ?!

I think its the stuff for school posters tbh, or cheap shops to put posters on the window made with "word 'art'" to advertise a buy one get one free.

It is the worst font I have ever known.

Well that was a vicious attack on a poor innocent font. Now you've gone and made it cry. Poor thing.

I have to stand up for the Comic Sans font at this point. I don't think there's anything 'orrible about it. I chose the comic font because this isn't a corporate site, this isn't about making money, it's about having a great time with great people at a fun event yadda yadda. I tried it as an experiment to see how it looked as the idea of a graphic novel/mature comic/whatever-you-call-them inspired look might make a nice change. As those publications frequently sport handwriting throughout, and given their popularity, it seemed to make sense that it would work. I tried it, not expecting to keep it, yet I liked it. I tried it on KF and some more unattached unbiased non-LlamaLAN types and they liked it too. So having tested the field, we stuck with it. :)

I know there are whole communities out their trying to ban it, but I see nothing wrong with playing a little and trying fonts that have some kind of stigma attached to them. That having been said...

As I said in the other thread about this under the website forum, we want the site to be as usable and visually appealing as possible. If loads of the LlamaLAN visitors really hate the font that much, then it makes sense to ditch it. Kanonfodda's done a cool mod to the site such that each of us who have registered can choose for themselves what style the site appears. Norphy brought up the font issue and so in honour of Norphy we have a style template called 'norphy', using Verdana in place of the curly comic sans. :D

Perhaps though it's worth counting hands on whether comic or something else is preferable so we can see a good sample from everyone and not just those who hate it. ;) If so then the comic sans style should be demoted to being an option and not the default.

See, now look what you've made me do. I've made it cry again. You know it was always picked last for football team lineups? I'll be back later after I've made up to it, somehow... :S
