Now that the LAN is drawing close, can we agree on a time when we should all make our final connections to Steam before the LAN? I'm just a little worried that there'll be a Steam update on the night before the LAN and we'll all be out of sync.
I'd suggest 23:59 on Thursday myself
Additionally, its probably worth drawing everyones attention to

I dont like HL2/CS but I want to take part in the tourneys at the lan so I have to update steam. Ite been updating for the last 3 days! I have ISDN, perhaps consider this fact (slow connection) when agreeing a time to begin downloading?
For those of you who forgot what its like to be on dialup, 40mb = 2 hours, then disconnect.

Counter Strike : Source will not be a tournie, but based on the voting it will definitely be one of the 'big games' and so well worth getting up to date.

Okies. Well, its still updating 3 days later. I keep getting messages about how the steam servers are too full to handle my 5KB/s request.
I've already downloaded the bf2 patch, and am on the verge of buying quake 4. Is it worth it?

I've played the first 5 minutes of the single player and it's got the old Quake 2 feel back again ... I haven't tried the multiplayer yet.

If you do agree a date/time then please consider that ppl like me may be packing their PC away Thursday day/evening so they can go straight from work on friday. 23:59 may be a tad late, Wednesday 8pm would be better

Completed Quake 4 - gameplay's ok, story was a bit disapointing - HL2, Doom3 and Halo all mixed into one. On the whole, it kept me entertained for a couple of days but didn't get me jumping up and down shouting "this is great." Basically, nothing new here.
Haven't tried multiplayer yet.

It`s worth the time to get the ISO (Backup) but i wouldn`t be keen on shelling out for a game i think i`m probably going to play at Lans only.

I'll be doing the Final steam update check
at 8pm, Thursday.
also, most patches (BF2 etc) are normally
avaliable on the FTP's at the event, so
if your pushed for download time, I'd
leave those to last, or at least until
after 'must-do's' like steam.

Roger that 8pm Thursday final Steam check. My steam is being a bit of a bastard at the moment with sticking at 99% update. I'm feeling I'm gonna have to reinstall hl2, hl2dm and css ... the joy. Thanks VALVe...

a *bit* of a bastard...
