Watching that vid took me back to my Elite 2 days.
Nice to see people are pioneering ways to both go faster and conserve the fuels we have. Now I want a solar-powered VASIMR spaceship.

My most favourite game ever. I'm still awaiting David Braben to release Elite IV! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_4 http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/games/archi ... _wait.html

That and Frontier: First Encounters did have some of gaming's most fine moments in history.
And still (still!) no other game has emerged that has match the utter flawlessness of its planet, sun, solar system and galaxy simulation.

Accuracy ... probably not ... but Eve and X3 probably give it a decent run for it's money.

I can just think of no other game where you could be on a planet, look up at the sky (provided it's night), pick a star, and fly to it and its surrounding satellites. Several times I ran out of enough fuel to get anywhere and faced the thrill of skimming across the gravity well of a star to scoop up enough hydrogen. A fine way to spend a number of evenings.
The most incredible thing was that First Encounters could fit on no more than a three floppies (I think?).
