Have to say. Oooooooooh.
Always been a fan of Battlefield games. Looks like we're not getting away from present day / imminent future U.S. combat any time soon. At any rate, the engine doesn't just look pretty but from the description of 'Frostbite 2' (DICE's engine name), if true, it sounds plenty immersive.
Frostbite 2 – Battlefield 3 introduces Frostbite 2, the incredible technology that takes animation, destruction, lighting, scale and audio to new heights. Built upon this powerful game engine, Battlefield 3 immerses players physically and emotionally to the world around them like never before.
Feel the Battle  Feel the impact of bullets and explosions, drag your fallen comrades into safety, and mount your weapon on almost any part of the terrain. Battlefield 3's cutting edge animation, spectacular visuals and real as hell battle gameplay attack your senses and make you feel the visceral warrior's experience like no other FPS.
Unparalleled Vehicle Warfare  The best online vehicle warfare experience gets even better with a fitting sonic boom as fighter jets headline an impressive lineup of land, air and sea vehicles. Other returning fan favourite features include 64 players for PC and prone.
I did have to LOL at the phrase 'real as hell battle gameplay'. Visceral seems an overused word now. But hopefully it's not missplaced...
Go lookie, especially at this one:

12 minute Fault Line footage plus teasing snippets right at the end.

If you've seen the other fault line vids you'll recognise some of the footage but this is basically it all put together with extras.
If you don't get time to watch the lot, make sure you see at least the last 30 seconds of this video. BF3's engine looks set to blow the competition away
And apparently, unlike most developments, this is PC first, consoles second. 64 player games will be possible again!

Just doing some research and everything I have found says NO Dedicated LAN servers will be available, all you can have is paid for Ranked servers. So that one is going in the bin before it has even been released.

Ha, same! It doesn't look good. People are dumb. What's even more annoying are the number of 'gamers' who just snort 'ER IT'S 2011 WHO CARES'. LANs aren't just about the ping, people!!
I'll see what the situation is when it arrives and go from there.

At least there are servers ... unlike Call of Duty : Modern Warfail 2 ... that lobby system is fail, to date I still haven't had a single game on it, I have too many other interesting things to do ... like jump straight into a dedicated server for Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare. Yep, I said it ... I've been playing CoD4 and liking it
In terms of other releases with dedicated servers I believe that Brink will be obliging!
Now, let’s get this FAQing underway:
What is the Brink Standalone Dedicated Server?
The Brink Standalone Dedicated Server allows anyone to run multiplayer servers for the PC version of Brink. As the server is standalone, it does not require a full version of Brink to be installed and is completely free.
Where will I be able to get the Brink Standalone Dedicated Server?
The Brink Standalone Dedicated Server will be available for download via Steam prior to release. Once the server is available, you can simply browse to the Tools tab in your Steam client and grab it from there.
Will I be able to run several instances of the Brink Standalone Dedicated Server on a single machine?
Yes. The Brink Standalone Dedicated Server comes with several pre-made bat files that automatically define different ports for each instance. It’s also possible for you to set your own, custom ports.
In terms of available game options, how customizable will the Brink Standalone Dedicated Server be?
The Brink Standalone Dedicated Server includes several different game configuration files covering all of the regular game modes, including campaign, stopwatch, objective, and co-op challenges. In addition, there are a variety of server-side commands available that allow you to further customize your server, including team sizes, time limits and overtime, warm-up rules, friendly fire, voice chat, availability of Command Post buffs, rank restrictions, number of bots, and password.
I represent a Game Server Provider. How can my company offer servers for Brink?
Easy! Once the Standalone Dedicated Server is available on Steam, you’ll be able to start getting Brink game servers up for your customers. We’re currently aiming to have the server files available before release so you’ll be all set when the game comes out.
