Mobile Internet

Now, to set the scene for why i have done what i have done, i have just moved to Watford, and as much as i would like some fancy cable or adsl (which there is great coverage for here) the contracts are at least twice as long as the rent agreement on my room! So i cant bare to do it, as i will probably look for somewhere shinier than where i am now
So i have decided that using the mobile internet network is the way forwards.
To start off i bought a proper three wireless "mifi" device, and a 1 month rolling contract sim with unlimited internet and tethering. I thought nothing more of it, and didnt use much in the two days it worked, but then i got a lovely landing page telling me to put my sim in a phone or they would cancel the contract.
PLAN B
I went and found my old t-mobile g1, which i can tether via usb, and gives me nearly 4mbit download, which is awsome (although i got 10+ through the mifi!)
Now, strap it to a cable router and a raspbery pi, and job done! Good wireless, good speed and my sim is in a phone
